A Nigerian student, Tolulope Israel Adekimi, who emerged as the world’s top performer in Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics, has explained why he believes the international examination is easier than the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) Mathematics.
Speaking after his outstanding achievement, the Year 12 student said the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics examination is more practical and focuses on helping students understand how mathematical concepts apply to everyday life.
“For me, I would say IGCSE Mathematics is easier than WAEC Mathematics,” Adekimi said, explaining that the questions are designed around real world situations, making them easier to understand and solve.
According to him, the international curriculum encourages critical thinking instead of memorisation, allowing students to relate mathematical principles to practical scenarios they encounter in daily life.
Adekimi recently gained global recognition after scoring a perfect 100 percent in the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics examination, earning the prestigious “Top in the World” award. His exceptional performance placed him ahead of thousands of candidates from different countries who sat for the examination.
His achievement has attracted widespread praise from educators, classmates and members of the public, with many describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria’s education sector.
The feat has also highlighted the growing success of Nigerian students in international academic competitions and examinations.
