Former Arsenal striker and football pundit Ian Wright believes Argentina are strong favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Wright shared his opinion while speaking on ITV Sport after Argentina’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Egypt in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
When asked by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville if Argentina could go all the way and lift the trophy, Wright said he was confident they could.
“I do believe Argentina can win the World Cup because I am afraid of them,” Wright said.
He added that Argentina have looked very strong throughout the tournament and remain unbeaten, making them one of the most dangerous teams left in the competition.
Argentina secured their place in the quarter-finals thanks to goals from Lionel Messi, Cristian Romero and Enzo Fernandez. Egypt fought hard and scored through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico, but their efforts were not enough to stop the South American champions from advancing.
With their unbeaten run still intact and several top players performing well, Argentina will head into the quarter-finals as one of the leading contenders for the World Cup title.
