Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Badagry princess and its deputy state women leader, Damilola Sonayon-James, 41, as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
Sonayon-James will run alongside the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who recently emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, Sonayon-James, fondly called ‘Sisi Eko of APC’, emerged after an extensive consultation and selection process.
This process was said to have assessed her competence, leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the party and ability to contribute to the continued development of Lagos State.
The APC chairman maintained that Sonayon-James distinguished herself through her commitment to service, dedication to the party, and track record of leadership in public and private life.
He expressed confidence in the APC ticket, describing the Hamzat-Sonayon-James combination as one capable of advancing the state’s development agenda.
While calling on Lagos residents to support APC in the election, Ojelabi said, “A vote for the party represents a vote for continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and a greater Lagos.”
The party further stated that the emergence of the former supervisor for agriculture and social services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area
reinforces its commitment to inclusive leadership, youth participation, and women’s representation in governance.
According to the statement, Sonayon-James is a governance and development professional with over 15 years of experience spanning public policy, institutional development, sustainability, risk governance, human capital strategy, stakeholder engagement and community development.
