The price of cooking gas, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), has increased again in Nigeria, marking the second upward review in just three days ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

A market survey conducted by DAILY POST showed that the cost of one kilogram of cooking gas rose from N1,500 to between N1,700 and N1,800 across several locations in Abuja and surrounding areas.

The latest adjustment means consumers are now paying an additional N200 to N300 per kilogram, further increasing the cost of household energy at a time many families are preparing for festive activities.

Just days earlier, cooking gas had already increased from N1,200 per kilogram to N1,500 per kilogram, reflecting a sharp and rapid change in market prices.

With the latest development, cooking gas prices have climbed by about 50 percent within three days, raising concerns among consumers and small business owners who rely heavily on gas for daily cooking and operations.

The rising cost has sparked worries among residents, many of whom say the repeated increases are putting additional strain on household budgets already affected by the high cost of food, transportation and other essential goods.

Industry stakeholders have linked the sudden jump in prices to supply challenges affecting the availability of LPG in the market.

The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers blamed the increase on scarcity and called on the government to urgently intervene to stabilise supply and prevent further price hikes.

Consumers are expected to continue monitoring market conditions in the coming days, with many hoping that increased supply and government action will help ease the pressure and bring prices down.
