A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) loyal to Dumebi Kachikwu held a national convention in Abuja on Sunday, where they dissolved the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and declared Kachikwu as their presidential candidate.

At the meeting, delegates used a voice vote to choose him as the candidate.

The faction also removed the existing party leadership and announced new officials.

The new leaders include Kingsley Oggah as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Abdulkadir Bashir as National Chairman, Johnny Derek as National Secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as National Treasurer, Chief Amirigoye as National Financial Secretary, and others for publicity and legal roles.

After receiving the party flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria is going through serious problems like insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship, and division. He said many Nigerians are leaving the country in search of better lives.

He called on the ADC to become a strong alternative party that can bring hope back to citizens.

According to him, Nigeria belongs to all its people and should not be controlled by a few powerful individuals.

Earlier, party officials described the convention as an important moment for the ADC, saying the party has survived internal problems and remains strong.

The new National Chairman, Abdulkadir Bashir, urged members to follow party rules and avoid actions that could create more division.

He also called on unhappy members to return and work together.

The report also noted that another ADC faction linked to David Mark has been involved in recent political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
