Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has admitted that his team no longer has full control over their chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
He made this statement after Manchester City played out an exciting 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday night. The result saw City drop important points in the title race, making their path to the trophy more difficult.
Guardiola explained that although a draw is not the ideal result, it is still better than losing the match entirely. He praised his players for their effort and determination during the game, noting that they pushed hard to secure a win but were unable to hold on.
According to him, the situation has now changed in the title race. Manchester City previously had their destiny in their own hands, but that is no longer the case. He acknowledged that Arsenal are now in a stronger position and will be crowned champions if they manage to win all their remaining matches.
Guardiola said: “A draw is better than a loss. We played to win and showed the kind of team we are. The players gave everything on the pitch.
“It’s not in our hands anymore. Before it was, but now it isn’t. We have to accept that and keep going.”
He added that the focus now is for his team to win their remaining four Premier League matches and hope for a slip from Arsenal.
Guardiola also mentioned that their upcoming game against Brentford will be another tough test as the season draws closer to its conclusion.
