Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, on Sunday made a high-profile visit to the national headquarters of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, sparking fresh conversations about a possible political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The two prominent politicians were accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the National Assembly.

Their presence at the party’s office drew attention from political observers and party members, with many interpreting the move as a significant step toward a possible defection.

Sources within the party disclosed that the visit may not be a routine consultation, as both leaders are expected to formally announce their decision to join the NDC in the coming days.

Although no official statement had been issued at the time of filing this report, the development has already generated widespread reactions across the political landscape.

The visit comes just hours after Obi announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In his resignation, the former Labour Party presidential candidate cited persistent internal crises and unresolved leadership issues within the party as the main reasons for his exit.

His departure has further deepened uncertainty within the ADC and raised questions about the future direction of its key stakeholders.
Kwankwaso, on his part, has yet to publicly confirm his resignation from the ADC.

However, multiple reports indicate that he shares similar concerns about the party’s internal challenges and is in close talks with Obi regarding a possible joint political platform.

Both leaders have long been seen as influential figures with strong grassroots support, particularly among young voters and in their respective regions.

Their potential alliance under a new political party is already being viewed as a development that could reshape alliances and strategies ahead of the next general elections.

Political analysts say the emerging relationship between Obi and Kwankwaso signals a broader effort to build a formidable coalition capable of challenging the dominance of Nigeria’s traditional major parties.

While details of any formal agreement remain unclear, their coordinated movements suggest ongoing negotiations and strategic planning.

As of now, neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has addressed the media regarding their visit to the NDC office. However, their actions have intensified speculation about a new political front that could alter the dynamics of the country’s electoral landscape in the coming years.
