Nigeria’s senior national football team, the Super Eagles, has recorded a big improvement in the latest FIFA World Rankings, climbing 12 places to 26th in the world.

The team moved up from 38th position following an impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco.

At the tournament, the Super Eagles showed determination and quality, finishing third after several strong matches against top African teams.

This rise in ranking now places Nigeria as the third-best team in Africa. Senegal, who won the AFCON title, are currently ranked 12th globally, while host nation Morocco sits eighth in the world rankings.

Algeria and Egypt follow Nigeria in fourth and fifth positions on the African continent.

The improvement in Nigeria’s FIFA ranking is seen as a positive sign for the country’s football development.

It reflects the hard work of the players, coaching crew, and football administrators, as well as the growing confidence of the team on the international stage.

Meanwhile, the top 10 teams in the world remain Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia.

Nigeria’s steady rise in the rankings has raised hope among football fans across the country, who are now looking forward to even better performances in future competitions, including World Cup qualifiers and other international tournaments.
