Mojisola Meranda has officially resigned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, bringing her 49-day tenure to an end.
Meranda assumed the position on January 13 following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa.
During her final plenary session on Monday, lawmakers commended her leadership before she formally stepped down.
Shortly after her resignation, Obasa was reinstated as Speaker.
Before the plenary, a crucial closed-door meeting took place outside the chamber, attended by key stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC), Cornelius Ojelabi.The meeting, held within the Assembly complex, involved both Obasa and Meranda.
Sources indicate that discussions surrounding Obasa’s return intensified during a high-level meeting on Sunday night with party leaders and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The meeting delayed the scheduled plenary, originally set for 1 PM, but the House eventually reconvened, leading to Obasa’s reinstatement.

Findings show that while Obasa was impeached as the speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, the president was not in the know and not duly carried along.
The GAC Factor
Mudashiru Obasa is a strong member of the APC Governing Advisory Council GAC and command big respect in the body that holds Lagos.
The GAC wasn’t okay with his removal and did everything within their power to reinstate him.
