The Lagos State House of Assembly has experienced a significant leadership change, with Rt. Hon. Mojisola now taking over as Speaker.
This announcement was made by Hon. Abiodun Tobun, who represents Epe Constituency 1, during a media briefing.
Hon. Tobun explained that the decision to change the leadership of the House was made unanimously by all members.
He highlighted that while death is constant, change is a natural part of life. According to him, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who had been Speaker for several terms, had served the House well, but it was time for a new direction.
“The entire House came together to make this decision. The constitution gives us the power to regulate our own proceedings, and we have followed the rules to the letter,” Tobun said.
As part of the leadership change, Rt. Hon. Mijisila was elected as the new Speaker of the House, while Hon. Ajinila was chosen to serve as Deputy Speaker. Tobun assured the public that this decision was made with the best interests of Lagos State in mind.
He described the process as a smooth transition, with all members of the House agreeing on the need for fresh leadership.
“The House remains united, and we are ready to work together under the new leadership to achieve great things for the people of Lagos,” he added.
This change is seen as the beginning of a new chapter for the Lagos Assembly. Lawmakers believe that Rt. Hon. Mijisila’s leadership will bring new energy and ideas to the House.
The new Speaker is expected to outline his plans and priorities in the coming weeks as the Assembly continues its work to address the needs of Lagosians.
