Nigerian actor Nonso Diobi has disclosed how his resemblance with the old timer actress, Hilda Dokubo helped him get his first major break in the Nollywood industry.
The actor noted that he had gone for an audition when Hilda Dokubo took notice of him and asked the director to cast him as her brother in the movie since there was a resemblance.
In a recent episode of the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, Nonso Diobi stated: “Back to the story of how I got my first movie role. I was at an audition and I started hearing people calling me from afar. I approached”.
“Before I could get close to them, Hilda Dokubo said, This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother. That was how I finally got my first role after three years and more than 1000 auditions. I didn’t even audition for it”.
Nonso Diobi made his debut on screen appearance in a 2001 movie entitled ‘Border Line’ followed by the movie ‘Hatred’.
The actor went on to give an outstanding performance in the movie ‘Across the bridge’ which gave him breakthrough in his career, making him known across Africa.
Diobi is the founder and chairman of Golden Tape Media, a film/tv production company in Africa. He is also a UN peace ambassador as well as teachers without Borders ambassador.
Nonso Diobi has starred in several movies including Drunk In Jealousy, Least Expected, House of Terror, To Live A Lie, Seed of Hatred, The Wife’s Lover, Makers Of Justice, Place Slave, Beyond Desire and many others.
