By- election: Restriction of Movement Limited to Surulere Constituency 1 – Police

Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin has said that the restriction of vehicular movement during the state’s by-election will only be in the Surulere area.
The by-election for Surulere federal constituency 1, in the federal house of representatives, is scheduled for Saturday, February 3,2024
The seat in the lower legislative chamber became vacant after President Bola Tinubu appointed Femi Gbajabiamila, immediate-past speaker of the house, as his chief of staff.
On Thursday the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the restriction of vehicular movement in 26 states where run-off and by-elections will take place.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, force public relations officer, said in a statement that the restriction applied to all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways and other forms of transportation. He added that the restriction will be from 12 am to 6 pm.
In a post on X on Friday, Hundeyin said there will be no restriction of movements in other parts of Lagos unaffected by the poll.
“CLARIFICATION: In the forthcoming bye-election in Lagos State, restriction of movement is applicable only in the election area, Surulere Federal Constituency I.
“There is no restriction of movement in other parts of the state.”His post reads.
The elections is to  fill vacancies in three senatorial districts, 17 federal and 28 state constituencies across 80 local government areas.
Individuals on essential services like officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited media personnel, and emergency responders are exempted from the restriction.
