FG Reopens Third Mainland Bridge After Month-Long Maintenance

The Federal Government has officially reopened the Third Mainland Bridge after a month-long closure for essential maintenance work. The closure, which began on November 1, involved repair works on two critical ramps connecting Oworoshoki to Adekunle and Lagos Island (Adeniji Adele) to Adekunle.

FG Announces Closure of Third Mainland Bridge for Repair

Addressing the public, a representative of the government, Mr. Osiyemi, expressed gratitude for the understanding and patience exhibited by Nigerians during the temporary closure.

“We are pleased to announce that parts of the Third Mainland Bridge which were closed last month will reopen today 21st December, 2023 by 6 pm,” the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi said in a Thursday statement.

“Following essential maintenance, the entire bridge is now fully accessible to the public, ensuring smoother connectivity and safe commuting,” the commissioner added.

He acknowledged the inconvenience caused and assured citizens that the decision to reopen the bridge.

Third Mainland Bridge Repair: ‘Seek Alternative Routes’ – FG Urges Motorists 

Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Engr. (Mrs.) O. I. Kesha, had previously announced the maintenance plan, emphasizing the simultaneous repair of the mentioned ramps.

The closure aimed at ensuring the structural integrity of the Third Mainland Bridge, Africa’s second-largest bridge, stretching nearly 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) to connect Lagos Island, the city’s bustling business hub, with the mainland, where a significant portion of the population resides.

Motorists were urged to cooperate with traffic management officials, adhere to diversions, and utilize alternative routes during the maintenance period.
