Tinubu Celebrates Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Achebe at 85

President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe (Agbogidi), on the occasion of his 85th birthday, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional rulers and a symbol of unity, wisdom, and integrity.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the revered monarch for his outstanding contributions to nation-building, community development, and the promotion of peace and harmony in the South-East and across the country.
Tinubu noted that Igwe Achebe has distinguished himself not only as a traditional ruler but also as a seasoned corporate leader and accomplished professional.

Before ascending the throne of his forefathers, the monarch enjoyed a successful career in the oil and gas industry, serving as a director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria and holding leadership positions in several Shell subsidiaries in countries including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, the Gambia, and Angola.

The President commended the monarch’s dedication to youth empowerment, social welfare, and economic development initiatives, which have positively impacted countless lives within Onitsha and beyond.

He also acknowledged Igwe Achebe’s consistent efforts in fostering peaceful coexistence and strengthening the relationship between traditional institutions and government at various levels.

According to Tinubu, the Obi of Onitsha has remained a respected voice in national discourse, using his position and influence to promote dialogue, unity, and understanding among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and cultural groups.

The President further praised the monarch’s decades of service in corporate governance, leadership, and public affairs, describing his life as a shining example of commitment, excellence, and selfless service to humanity.

Tinubu joined the royal family, the Onitsha kingdom, the government and people of Anambra State, as well as well-wishers across Nigeria, in celebrating the milestone. He prayed for continued good health, wisdom, and strength for the monarch as he continues to provide leadership and guidance to his people and contribute to national development.
