Ekiti State Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed confidence that he will secure more than 500,000 votes in Saturday’s governorship election.
Oyebanji spoke after casting his vote alongside his wife, Olayemi, at Ward 06, Unit 03, Okelele, Ikogosi-Ekiti, at about 11:38 a.m.
The governor praised the turnout of voters, saying it showed that residents understand the importance of good governance and its impact on the future of the state.
When asked if the APC could achieve its target of 500,000 votes, Oyebanji said he believed the party would surpass the figure if the electoral process went smoothly and eligible voters were allowed to vote.
“We should cross that line if the process works well and everyone votes,” he said.
The APC had earlier stated during its campaign that it was aiming not only to win the election but also to secure at least 500,000 votes for the governor.
Speaking on the conduct of the election, Oyebanji said he was satisfied with the process so far but appealed to voters to remain patient with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He acknowledged that there could be minor challenges during the exercise but expressed confidence that INEC would address them.
“I appeal to our people to be patient. INEC has assured me that nobody will be disenfranchised and that everyone who comes out to vote will be able to do so. Our people should cooperate with the electoral officials and allow the process to continue peacefully,” he said.
