Tinubu Appoints New Resident Electoral Commissioners for INEC

President Bola Tinubu has exercised his powers as conferred by the Constitution and Electoral Act to appoint nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The appointments, announced via a press statement on Wednesday, mark a significant step towards fostering transparent, fair, and conflict-free elections in the country.

The list of appointed officials includes Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne for Edo State, Mr. Bamidele Agbede for Ekiti State, Mr. Jani Adamu Bello for Gombe State, Dr. Taiye Ilayasu for Kwara State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi for Lagos State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for Nasarawa State, Prof. Mohammed Yalwa for Niger State, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha for Rivers State, and Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo for Zamfara State.

According to the President’s Special Adviser, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President expects the new appointees to maintain the utmost levels of professionalism and ethical conduct while discharging their duties. This development aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to establishing a new era of credible electoral practices, fostering trust in the electoral process, and ensuring the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic framework.

The term of each of the appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners is set at five years, pending the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate.
