The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea made by former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar to present fresh evidence against President Bola Tinubu. The ruling, delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro on Thursday, marked a critical juncture in the appeals filed challenging Bola Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Tribunal Court (PEPC).

Court Reads Judgment on Atiku’s Appeal, Contemplates Fresh Evidence Admissibility

The court’s decision rested on the rejection and dismissal of the deposition provided by the Registrar of the CSU, Caleb Westberg.

The grounds for this exclusion were firmly established on the argument that the Supreme Court lacked jurisdiction due to the expiration of the 180-day timeline designated for the determination of election petitions.

Justice Okoro emphasized that, considering the lapse of time for trial at the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court could not entertain any fresh evidence during the appeal process.
