Sit-at-home: Our people cannot be forced to abandon Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) say the high level of compliance with Monday’s sit-at-home order in parts of the South-East shows that people cannot be intimidated into turning against their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The sit-at-home was declared by IPOB to support traders at Onitsha Main Market, whose shops were shut by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo. Although the state government later reopened the market after one week, only a few traders returned to their shops.

On Monday, many streets in Anambra State were largely empty. Most offices, businesses, and schools did not open, especially in the morning.

Reacting to the situation, IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the sit-at-home recorded “total compliance” across the South-East and other parts of what the group calls Biafraland.

According to him, the turnout showed the strong support people still have for Nnamdi Kanu and their determination to demand his release from detention.

Powerful said the people had made it clear that they would not give up their leader because of threats or intimidation. He added that the sit-at-home was peaceful and showed unity among the people.

He stressed that IPOB remains committed to discipline and order but would continue to oppose any attempt to intimidate or oppress its supporters.

He also said that the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu has strengthened the people’s resolve to keep demanding justice.
