In response to the alarming surge in insecurity across the nation, the Nigerian Senate has taken decisive action by resolving to summon the country’s service chiefs. This crucial decision was made during a session on Thursday following deliberations concerning the recent kidnapping of five female students from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State.
The summoned officials include:
– Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa
– Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja
– Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla
– Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar
– Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun
– National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu
The Senate’s resolution underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures.
They have called upon security agencies to take proactive steps to secure the release of the abducted female students and the corps members who were kidnapped by terrorists in Zamfara State. Additionally, the lawmakers have urged the military to conduct special operations to root out bandits in the North-West region and other parts of the country.

Furthermore, the Senate has emphasized the necessity of addressing the manpower deficit within the armed forces and police. They have also voiced their support for the creation of state police as one of the strategies to combat the ongoing security challenges.

The recent incident that triggered this parliamentary action involved the abduction of five female students from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State.

These students were reportedly kidnapped from their residence located behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial International School along Tsaskiya Road in the early hours of Wednesday, around 2:30 a.m.
The police have confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing to secure the release of the abducted students from the hands of the criminals.
“Yes, it is true, the incident has taken place but we have already arrested one suspect for now in connection with the incident and we are investigating the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding it please,” Aliyu added.
