Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has claimed that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, is busy preparing for two Presidential elections – President Bola Tinubu’s in 2027, and his own in 2031.
Amaechi’s comments were made during a phone-in interview on Eagles Radio with the transcript later shared on X by a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu.
Amaechi also cast doubt on allegations that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, wiretapped Ribadu’s phone. According to him, El-Rufai lacked the technical capacity to carry out such an act.
“I doubt that El-Rufai said he hacked NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s phone. He doesn’t have the capacity to do so. It’s the NSA’s office that is listening to our calls,” Amaechi stated.
He further alleged that Ribadu was orchestrating political manoeuvres aimed at weakening opposition forces, particularly the All Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to him, “Ribadu is busy arresting everybody. He’s planning double elections. He’s planning for himself in 2031 and also planning for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“All he’s doing is setting up parties to fight the ADC. He has his own fake ADC. Just go to court; he has so many ADC cases in court with small boys he has bought cars for.”
The former minister criticised what he described as overreach by the National Security Adviser, urging Ribadu to concentrate on his security responsibilities rather than alleged political scheming.
“The man needs to rest. If he thinks there won’t be proper elections in 2027, he’s wasting his time. He should prepare for his security job,” Amaechi said.
TopSociety reports that these claims add a new layer to the growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly amid ongoing controversies involving El-Rufai and investigations by security agencies.
El-Rufai has been with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where he is undergoing Interrogation for alleged misappropriation of Kaduna State funds to the tune of N432bn when he was Governor.
When granted bail, he will likely become a guest of the DSS whose operatives are waiting to interrogate him on two allegations – wire-tapping the NSA’s phone for which he has already been dragged to Court, and his allegation that the office of the NSA imported 10 kilograms of a poisonous chemical, Thallium Sulphate from Poland.
