Monarchs Reaffirm the Role of Peace and Unity in National Development
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, alongside prominent Southwest traditional rulers, embarked on a historic two-day visit to Daura, Katsina State, reinforcing the enduring commitment to unity and national development.
The royal delegation, which included the Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole; the Oore of Otun Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo; and the Alara of Ilara Epe, Lagos State, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, paid courtesy calls to former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar.
This momentous visit symbolized the non-negotiable nature of Nigeria’s unity and the pivotal role of traditional leaders in fostering peace and progress.
A Memorable Encounter with Buhari
During the visit, Oba Ogunwusi expressed delight at the remarkable grace with which former President Buhari is enjoying his retirement in his hometown. The Ooni was visibly impressed, noting how rejuvenated the former leader appeared.
“The former president, Muhammadu Buhari, is in remarkably high spirits. He appears 30 years younger than his age and is radiating vibrance and good health. God has truly blessed him in retirement,” the Ooni remarked.
The revered monarch highlighted the significance of sustaining strong relationships with Nigeria’s leaders, both past and present, as a cornerstone for fostering a unified and prosperous nation.
Buhari’s Gratitude
Buhari, in turn, appreciated the royal visit, acknowledging it as the first of its kind since his departure from office. “This visit is a rare privilege I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Buhari said. He expressed his admiration for the Southwest monarchs and assured them of his unwavering commitment to supporting their vision for national unity.
The royal fathers, accompanied by the District Head of Daura, Dan Madamin Daura, were taken on a tour of Buhari’s expansive farm and later visited his elder sister.
Meeting with the Emir of Daura
The delegation’s visit extended to the palace of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar, where discussions emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in bridging divides and promoting harmony.
Speaking about the visit, the Oore of Otun Ekiti and paramount ruler of Mobaland, Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo, described the trip as a demonstration of unity and brotherhood. “The visit to the Emir of Daura symbolizes love, unity, and the strength of our shared heritage. Traditional rulers are custodians of the people’s culture and values, and this meeting reinforces our collective responsibility towards national cohesion,” Oba Adeagbo stated.
