Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has replied those accusing him of hypocrisy for singing a discordant tune over the state of insecurity under President Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent, Bola Tinubu.
The controversial priest had while reacting to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriile local government area of Oyo State, blamed governors for not using “the billions they receive” as security vote to secure their states and residents.
Netizens wasted no time in reminding him that this wasn’t his stance on the insecurity menace during the Jonathan era, as they noted that he had at the time put the blame squarely on the president not the governors.
Responding in a video that went viral on Wednesday, Mbaka insisted that for President Tinubu to be blamed for the activities of bandits and terrorists in their states, governors should leave their security votes to the federal government.
insisted that the insecurity ravaging the country has political undertone. He claimed that the security crisis was orchestrated by disgruntled politicians to remove President Tinubu, as they did to Jonathan.
He however pointed out that Jonathan’s case was different as his failure was self-inflicted. Mbaka disclosed that he had advised the former president to remove the then Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, but the advice was disregarded.
As Nigerians on social media linked Mbaka to why Jonathan lost his re-election bid in 2015, he stated that the former president disobeyed the “advice of a man of God”.
According to the AMEN founder, “Forget about what they are saying on social media, former President Goodluck Jonathan was my friend; the case is different.
“Jonathan didn’t fail because I failed him; he decided to fail. I told him what to do to win the election, but he refused.
“He failed because he disobeyed the advice of a man of God. I told him to remove Jega, that Jega had already betrayed him but he refused to remove Jega.
“I made a preaching: who is holding your ladder Jonathan? President Jonathan, are you still with Jega? That was the topic of that message. I told him to remove Jega, this man has sold you out yet he left Jega as the INEC chairman. That was Jonathan’s doom.
“So, anybody comparing what I said about his presidency (and that of Tinubu) Are you the one telling me what to say? Why don’t they say their own? I didn’t tell Tinubu not to be involved in national security,” Mbaka said.
