Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the announcement during a statewide broadcast on Friday, confirming that the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, party leaders, and close associates across the state.
According to him, the move was driven by the need to advance development and ensure greater benefits for the people of Adamawa State.
Fintiri disclosed that he did not defect alone, stating that members of his cabinet, key government appointees, and top PDP officials in the state have also joined the APC.
He described the mass defection as a united political step aimed at repositioning the state for improved cooperation with the Federal Government.
The governor explained that aligning with the ruling party at the national level would create better opportunities for Adamawa State to attract federal projects, secure increased funding, and strengthen infrastructure development.
He emphasized that his priority remains the welfare of citizens, economic growth, and improved security.
Fintiri added that politics should not be about personal ambition but about delivering tangible results to the people. He assured residents that governance in the state would continue without disruption and that ongoing projects would be sustained.
His defection comes amid a wave of political realignments across the country. Recently, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Abba Yusuf of Kano State, and Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State also joined the APC, further strengthening the ruling party’s influence in several states.
Political observers believe the development could reshape the political landscape ahead of future elections, particularly as preparations gradually begin for 2027. More reactions and details are expected in the coming days.
Political analysts say Governor Fintiri’s defection could reshape Adamawa’s political scene and strengthen the APC’s position in the region, setting the stage for intense contests in the 2027 elections.
