Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He announced his decision on Thursday while speaking to journalists, party leaders of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, and his supporters in Ikeja.
His withdrawal came shortly after President Bola Tinubu reportedly supported the incumbent Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for the position.
Jandor said recent political developments in the party influenced his decision. He explained that after he picked his nomination forms, he learned about a meeting where the President’s support was said to be for the Deputy Governor.
He said he had earlier promised to follow the direction of the President, so he decided to step down from the race.
He asked his supporters to stay calm and respect the party’s internal process, stressing the importance of unity and discipline within the APC.
Jandor also restated his loyalty to President Tinubu and thanked party leaders in Lagos for their guidance.
He had only just bought his nomination forms a day before withdrawing.
Meanwhile, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat had already obtained his nomination form and is believed to have the backing of key APC leaders in Lagos, including the Governance Advisory Council, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and others.
