The Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has openly declared his support for the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Gbajabiamila made this statement during a political consultation meeting where Hamzat was seeking wider support for his governorship ambition. He praised Hamzat’s character, leadership ability, and long years of public service, saying these qualities make him fit to lead Lagos State.

According to him, there is no doubt that Lagos State will remain in safe hands if Hamzat eventually becomes governor. He stressed that leadership requires competence and experience, which he believes Hamzat already has.

He also said Hamzat showed humility by consulting widely before his ambition fully takes shape. Gbajabiamila added that this kind of approach shows respect for the political process and the people.

He went further to assure Hamzat of his personal and political support, saying:

“I trust your ability and capacity to govern well. You can count on my support without hesitation. My constituency in Surulere and Lagos State as a whole are behind you.”

This endorsement is seen as a major political backing within Lagos politics, especially as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum.

Earlier at the meeting, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), said consultations have been ongoing across different political groups and leaders.

He explained that the level of support Hamzat is receiving so far has been very strong and encouraging, suggesting that many influential figures are already aligning with his ambition.

Other prominent political leaders and stakeholders present at the meeting included Alhaji Muti Are, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Bode Oyedele, Engineer Adekunle Olayinka, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, Saheed Kekereekun, Dr. Jebe, and Rasaq Ajala, among others.

The gathering reflected growing political activity in Lagos State as key players begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
