Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has shared details of his past struggles with addiction, revealing how years of excessive smoking and an uncontrolled lifestyle led him to spend an estimated N350 million.
The award-winning artiste said the habit developed gradually during the peak of his fame, becoming a costly routine he did not fully understand until much later.
According to him, what began as occasional smoking eventually grew into a daily dependence that followed him through tours, studio sessions, and social events. He explained that the lifestyle associated with fame made it easy for the habit to blend into his routine, especially within entertainment circles where such behaviour is often normalized.
Ice Prince noted that the figure he mentioned represents only part of his spending, as it covers transactions traced to a single supplier, excluding additional purchases made in different cities and countries. He said the realization of how much money was spent on the habit came as a shock when he eventually reflected on his lifestyle choices.
The rapper admitted that during those years, he was not fully aware of the long-term consequences of his actions. He described the period as one marked by poor discipline, constant partying, and neglect of personal wellbeing. Over time, he said the habit began to affect both his health and financial stability.
He further explained that fame played a role in normalizing his behaviour, as he was constantly surrounded by environments where smoking and alcohol use were common. According to him, it became difficult to separate personal choices from industry culture, which made it harder to recognize the need for change early on.
Ice Prince said the turning point came when he began to reflect seriously on his life and health. He made the decision to quit smoking entirely, along with reducing alcohol intake and adopting a healthier daily routine. This shift, he noted, was not immediate but required consistent discipline and mental strength.
He described quitting the habit as one of the most difficult decisions he has ever made, but also one of the most rewarding. Over time, he began to notice improvements in his physical fitness, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing. According to him, simple lifestyle changes such as exercise, better eating habits, and avoiding negative environments played a major role in his recovery.
The rapper also used his experience to caution young people about the dangers of copying celebrity lifestyles without understanding the consequences behind them. He stressed that many habits glamorized in entertainment often carry hidden costs that can affect both health and finances in the long run.
Fans have since reacted strongly to his revelation, with many expressing surprise at the amount spent while others praised him for his honesty. Some believe his openness highlights the reality of addiction in the entertainment industry, where pressures and exposure can easily lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Mental health advocates have also pointed out that his story helps bring attention to the importance of awareness and recovery support. They argue that public figures speaking about personal struggles can encourage others facing similar challenges to seek help and make positive changes.
Today, Ice Prince says he is focused on maintaining a healthier lifestyle and prioritizing discipline in all areas of his life. His story now stands as a reflection of growth, showing how personal change is possible even after years of struggle with addiction and excess.
