Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has boasted that he is the leader of the Afrobeats genre globally.
The 31-year-old during a recent interview with Billboard’s Nadine Graham, referred to him as the leader of Afrobeats in the United States, saying he is leading “everywhere.”

Davido said as the “global leader of Afrobeats”, he wants people to look forward to “Just good music. And it’s crazy, because people in jail have heard my music.”
The DMW boss’ statement is coming days after his colleague Wizkid joined Burna Boy to clarify that he is not an Afrobeats artiste.

The ‘Essence’ star in an Instagram story on Saturday announced that his next album is ready and warned fans not to expect an Afrobeats version of him on the project.
He urged fans of Afrobeats not to download his new album.
He wrote,
“Album done! See you soon b*tches!
“And abeg if you like Pakurumo Wizkid, don’t download this new album. In fact, delete me from your playlist and your life!
“If you like Afrobeats, don’t download my album. I’m not a f*cking Afrobeats artiste. I am not Afro anything.”
In a July 2022, Burna Boy during an interview on the Million Dollar Worth of Game podcast stated that his genre of music is called Afrofusion and not Afrobeats as assumed by many.
According to Burna Boy, because his music genre originated in Africa does not make it Afrobeats.
He also said Africa has so many genres of music, adding that generalising it all as Afrobeats is a “disservice to other artistes” in other genres.
