Gunmen have killed four people and kidnapped more than 20 worshippers in Kogi State.

The main attack happened at the First Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Ayetoro-Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

One worshipper, identified as Jayjay, was killed, while at least 20 people were taken away. Security officials said the number of abducted people could be higher.

On the same day, gunmen also attacked Oke-Agi and Ilai communities in Mopamuro Local Government Area. Three people were killed during these attacks, and several others were injured or kidnapped.

At Jamroro settlement, between Oke-Agi and Takete Isao, two people were killed and three others were injured. The area is mostly inhabited by Tiv people.

In Ilai, a Bassa community near a grammar school, one person was killed and three people were kidnapped.

The chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government, Zaccheus Michael, said the area was already unsafe and blamed the church for holding a service. He ordered all markets in the area to be closed.

The chairman of Mopamuro Local Government, Ademola Bello, confirmed the attacks, along with traditional rulers and community leaders.

Residents said attacks on churches and communities in Okunland have increased in the last three weeks. On November 30, gunmen also attacked a church in Ejiba, kidnapping many worshippers.

Community members are now calling on the government and security agencies to urgently take action to stop the rising violence across Yagba Federal Constituency.
