The Federal Government has approved ₦46 billion for the rehabilitation of the runway at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State, marking another major investment in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The project is aimed at improving flight safety, extending the lifespan of the airport’s infrastructure, and enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers and airlines operating in northern Nigeria.
The approval was announced following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, where the government reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing critical transport infrastructure across the country. According to officials, the existing runway has deteriorated over the years due to heavy aircraft traffic, weather conditions, and prolonged use, making comprehensive rehabilitation necessary.
Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport is one of Nigeria’s busiest airports and serves as a major gateway for domestic and international flights.
