The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed that the state’s Chief Judge has received official documents notifying him of alleged gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.
The confirmation came in a statement by the Assembly’s spokesperson, Hon. Dr. Enemi Alabo George, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions, and Complaints.
The statement said all relevant documents, including the notices detailing the allegations, were attached to the correspondence.
Dr. Enemi confirmed that the Chief Judge has officially received and acknowledged the notice.
This development follows the Assembly’s Friday plenary session, where lawmakers pledged to continue with the impeachment process that began last week.
According to the statement, the Assembly is acting in line with Section 188(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which allows it to investigate claims of gross misconduct against a sitting governor and deputy governor.
