The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that it has replaced some of its candidates ahead of the upcoming 2027 elections.
The party said the changes were made to correct problems and irregularities found during the candidate selection process.
APC has also started sending the names of its candidates for different elective positions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for publication.
Speaking to the BBC, APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said the party screened about 2,500 aspirants who wanted to contest under its platform. He added that successful candidates had received their certificates, and the approved list had been submitted to INEC.
According to Ibrahim, replacing a candidate is not unusual if it is discovered that proper procedures were not followed.
He said the party has created a reconciliation committee to meet with aspirants whose names were replaced and explain the reasons for the decision.
Ibrahim expressed confidence that those affected would remain loyal to the party and continue supporting its goals.
He added that even if some aspirants did not get the positions they wanted, they could still be given opportunities to serve in other capacities in the future.
The announcement comes after some APC members complained that their names were removed despite their years of loyalty and service to the ruling party.
