The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has explained why Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has not yet been officially welcomed into the party.
Speaking on TVC Politics, Yilwatda said the delay was due to strategic planning ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.
He explained that the APC decided to first welcome governors from northern Nigeria who recently joined the party because Ramadan is approaching and most people in the North are Muslims.
According to him, political activities during Ramadan require careful planning and respect for religious sensitivities.
“We decided to finish activities in the North first because Ramadan is coming, and the North has a large Muslim population,” Yilwatda said.
He stressed that the decision was based on respect for religion and culture across different regions of the country.
Yilwatda also rejected claims that the delay was caused by internal party problems or the influence of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
“It has nothing to do with Governor Fubara lacking control. It is purely about strategy and understanding community sensitivities,” he said.
He assured APC members that Governor Fubara would be formally welcomed into the party after activities in the North are completed.
