The suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hudu Yunusa Ari, has managed to evade arraignment for the second time, as reported on November 6, 2023.
Despite the trial judge, Justice Benjamin Manji, instructing the Nigerian police to produce Yunusa Ari by the adjourned date of November 23, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), CSP Moses Jolugbo, informed the Adamawa State High Court of Justice that the suspended REC has gone into hiding.
During today’s proceedings, INEC’s counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, urged the court to issue a warrant of arrest against Yunusa Ari. However, just before the judge could respond, a lawyer, Usman M. SAN, appeared on behalf of Yunusa Ari, revealing, “I was instructed by his son. As of now, our client (Yunusa Ari) is not in the country; he is in Niger Republic.”

Justice Manji, in response, tasked Yunusa Ari’s counsel to produce him within two weeks and adjourned the case accordingly.
It’s worth noting that Elisha Abbo, recently ousted as Adamawa senator by the Court of Appeal, had signed the police bail bond for the disgraced Resident Electoral Commissioner.
