During Thursday’s plenary, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, oversaw the administration of the oath of office to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the newly appointed senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The oath was administered by the Senate Clerk, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, precisely at 11:41 am. Following the oath, Akpabio warmly welcomed Akpoti-Uduaghan, engaging in a handshake and presenting her with a copy of the Senate Standing Rules.

Court of Appeal Affirms Akpoti-Uduagan as Kogi Central Senatorial Election Winner

The ceremony continued with Akpoti-Uduaghan exchanging pleasantries with her fellow senators before being escorted to her seat by the sergeant at arms.

This appointment comes as a result of the recent Court of Appeal ruling, affirming Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party as the duly elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held on February 25 this year.

The appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress, ruling it lacked merit.

This decision echoes the earlier ruling by the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in September, which nullified Ohere’s victory and declared Akpoti-Uduaghan as the rightful winner of the February senatorial poll. Despite Ohere’s efforts to seek redress at the appellate court, the ruling was upheld, solidifying Akpoti-Uduaghan’s position as the authentic winner of the poll.
