The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has explained the reasons behind its decision to endorse President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Show on Friday, APGA National Chairman, Sylvester Ezeokenwa, said the endorsement was based on both the party’s established policy and its confidence in the direction of the current administration.
According to Ezeokenwa, APGA’s decision did not come as a surprise because the party has maintained a similar position in previous election cycles. He noted that the party adopted the presidential candidacy of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2011 general election and has continued to uphold that political tradition.
He explained that APGA carefully reviewed the current political situation in the country before arriving at the decision to back Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
Ezeokenwa said the party believes that the reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration are aimed at addressing some of Nigeria’s long-standing economic and governance challenges. He added that many of the policies being implemented by the Federal Government align with APGA’s progressive principles and vision for national development.
According to him, the party is convinced that President Tinubu is steering the country in the right direction and deserves support to continue the programmes and reforms already underway.
He stressed that the endorsement was not made for political convenience but was based on the party’s conviction that the president’s leadership is in the best interest of the nation.
The APGA chairman also emphasized that the party remains committed to its core values and would continue to support policies and leaders it believes can promote growth, stability and development across the country.
His comments come days after APGA formally endorsed President Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, a move that has generated reactions across the political landscape.
The endorsement is expected to strengthen the relationship between APGA and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next general elections. Political observers say the development could also influence political alignments and negotiations as parties begin preparations for the 2027 contest.
President Tinubu, who is seeking a second term in office, has continued to receive endorsements from political leaders, groups and stakeholders in different parts of the country. Supporters of the president argue that ongoing economic and institutional reforms require continuity, while critics maintain that Nigerians will ultimately decide his fate at the polls.
With political activities gradually gathering momentum ahead of 2027, APGA’s endorsement has become one of the latest major developments in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
