Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has narrated how the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, supported him after he was removed as the ruling party’s national chairman in 2020 while the late President Muhammadu Buhari was still in power.
Top Society recalls that Oshiomhole was sacked by the Court order in a legal battle which was reportedly linked to a political tussle with his successor as Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. He has now gone down memory lane to relate the political isolation that followed his removal from office.
Speaking during the commissioning of 54 construction equipment procured by the Edo State Government for local government councils, the Edo North Senator stated that many members of his party distanced themselves from him after he was dismissed as the APC national chairman.
According to him, “When I was removed and became lonely, abandoned by my own party, people were afraid to visit me because it could be termed anti-party.
“But I got a call from a rare Nigerian who identifies with those who are lonely, and he invited me to Port Harcourt to commission a flyover. Can you imagine? And that was not enough, this minister honoured me with the highest honour of Rivers State,” he stated.
Oshiomhole added that although Wike once told him he had “celebrated” his political misfortunes, the FCT minister renewed his hope during the difficult period despite he political differences between them.
“What he did was not to judge Edo people by the behaviour of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. It was an act of courage and friendship,” he said.
The Edo North Senator went on to commend Wike’s performance as FCT Minister, describing him as a trailblazer from the South-South region.
“Wike is the first person from the South-South to be appointed as FCT Minister, and he has ministered in a way that has redefined the concept of development. If anyone was in doubt, the projects across Abuja speak for themselves,” Oshiomhole declared.
