At a time when some Churches encourage congregants to offer their first salary of the year as first fruit, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has handed her father the earliest stipend she would receive from the Federal Government, popularly called “allawee”.

In an emotional moment captured in a video shared on TikTok, the young lady, decked in her NYSC uniform, could be seen kneeling before her father as she presented her first national youth service allowance to daddy.

The father whose name was given as Arogundade Adewale expressed gratitude and pride over his daughter’s thoughtfulness.

In the video he posted on social media, Adewale took N7,000 from the total amount and returned the balance to his daughter, showering her with blessings and prayers.

He captions the post, “My daughter brought her first NYSC salary to me,” adding in Yoruba, “Ounje omo ni,” which translates to “This is the fruit of my labour.”

This heart-warming tradition is rooted in Nigerian culture, where children honor their parents with their first earnings, in return for blessings which legendary actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo described as “a long-standing African tradition from our ancestors which has made many people prosper today.”

TopSociety recalls that in May 2024, the veteran actor made a video with his son where he advised that first salaries should be given to fathers for blessings rather than to pastors. He demonstrated this by collecting a token of N500 from his son, Clinton Mbaise’s, N50,000 first salary as a production assistant, emphasising that this tradition brings success and teaches financial management.
