The Nigerian police has disarmed and detained one of its officers who fired a shot that hit a young boy on his leg and abdomen at a checkpoint along the East-West road in Ughelli, Delta state.
It would be recalled that a viral video depicting the moment a boy was shot whilst a family relative wailed uncontrollably for help surfaced on social media on December, 5th.
The victim was, however, rushed to the hospital, where medical practitioners are currently treating him.
An X user shared the video with caption,
“An operative of the Nigeria Police Force on stop and check along east-west road Ughelli has allegedly opened fire on a boy with bullet hitting his leg and abdomen.. @Brightgoldenboy no go see this.. una no go check the wolf’s wey una give uniform and gun.”
Reacting to the incident, the Spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe via the micro-blogging platform, X, formerly Twitter noted that the inspector behind the incident has been detained.

He further assured that justice would take its course.
He wrote,
“This is a very sad event, and I want to assure members of the public that the command is not taking this lightly. The inspector who shot has been disarmed and detained while we hope and pray that the young man recovers soon. Justice must be served, I assured you all.”
