The hands of Enitan Subair, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Osun State who commenced a 58-hour hand wash-a-thon  to set a new Guinness World Record on Monday was pictured white at the end of the competition.

It would be recalled that Enitan had notified the GWR in June 2023 of her intentions and was given November 24 to embark on her attempt.

The 200-level student of Linguistics and African Languages had embarked on the venture from Friday, 24 November surpassing the current world record holder, Wendy Sandner (USA) with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes.

In the video that surfaced on social media, Enitan’s hands which has been in water for more than 50 hours, washing turned white as she’s seen in the hospital bed where she’s currently receving treatment.

Subair had expressed optimism that she would finish strong as the title holder of the longest hand-washing hours.

According to her,

“My background, the lessons life taught me have been motivating me to embark on this wash-a-thon. My experience is unexplainable but it taught me to be selfless. I am confident that I will reach the set goal of 50 hours of hand wash and by God’s grace I will emerge victorious.

“Despite the massive support from my colleagues here, I pray for the grace of God to be able to complete the task. My parents are very supportive and I urge Nigerians to rally round me while I work towards completing the task.”

Meanwhile the president of the Student Union, Abbas Akinremi-Ojo, had stated that the needed support, including an ambulance and lighting, among other logistics, has been put in place to ensure she wins the challenge.

The school management, represented by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor John Odedire, said the institution is ready to give all it takes to ensure she clinches the record.

Recall that many Nigerians since May have attempted to break one GWR or the other after Hilda Baci broke the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Some of these include; puff-puff-a-thon, a cry-a-thon, pray-a-thon, sing-a-thon, and among others. However, only Hilda has been recognised by the GWR so far.
