The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, has tendered his resignation from the party’s leadership.
This decision comes in the wake of his recent appointment as the Federal Commissioner representing the state at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Ambassador Akawor conveyed his decision through a letter addressed to the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum. In the letter, he expressed profound gratitude to the party for entrusting him with the responsibility of steering its affairs in the state from 2020 to 2023.

The letter read in part;
“After consultation with my leaders and family, I have accepted this opportunity to serve our country, which I consider as a national service. Consequently, I have resigned my position as the Rivers State Party Chairman of our great party – The PDP, and immediately handed over all duties to the Deputy Party Chairman – Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka who has commenced action in this stead.”
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have steered the ship of our great Party, The PDP at the State level from 2020 to 2023, and especially grateful for your support and the support of the National body during my tenure.”
The resignation marks the end of Akawor’s tenure as the head of the PDP in Rivers State, as he transitions to a new role in the federal government.
