President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ola Olukoyede as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The announcement was made by Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday.
Ola Olukoyede’s appointment is for an initial renewable term of four years, subject to Senate confirmation. Here are seven key facts to know about the new EFCC chairman:

1. Early Life: Ola Olukoyede was born in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti, on October 14, 1969.
2. Legal Expertise: With over twenty-two years of legal experience, Olukoyede is a seasoned lawyer.
3. Education: He pursued his university education at prestigious institutions including Lagos State University, the University of Lagos, the Institute of Arbitration in ICC – Paris, France, and the University of Harvard (Kennedy School of Executive Education).
4. Professional Background: Olukoyede has a background as a regulatory compliance consultant and a specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence.
5. Previous Roles: Prior to his recent appointment, he served as the EFCC Secretary. Notably, he also held the position of Chief of Staff to former EFCC Chair, Ibrahim Magu, during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

6. International Involvement: The distinguished lawyer is a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel (UK) and has also been a member of the Federal Government Technical Committee on the Repositioning of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.
7. Previous Experience: Olukoyede previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018.
