Top Entertainment Stories You Probably Missed This Week

The Nigerian entertainment this week suffered a grave loss, after it witnessed the death of two of its finest members.

Asides the crippling emotions of losing its members, it had a share of drama during the movie premiere of Beast of two worlds, and some others which will be highlighted in this article, including the stories that made trends on the Top Society platform.

1, Amaechi Monagor Death: The movie industry was thrown into mourning following the sudden death of veteran Nollywood comic actor, Amechi Monagor after a protracted battle with kidney-related issues, diabetes and stroke.

The 61 years deceased actor’s death comes days after he cried out for financial assistance on social media to enable him pay for a kidney transplant in India.

Amaechi, a native of Idemili in Anambra, was born on August 20, 1962, completed his national service in the NYSC, and worked at NAN briefly before venturing into acting in his first movie as Akunatakasi in Taboo.

2, Bobrisky’s Best Dressed Female Award: Nigerian controversial cross-dresser, Bobrisky over the week emerged best-dressed female at Eniola Ajao’s Beast of Two Worlds premiere.

The announcement sparked reactions on social media as several celebrities including Dayo Amusa, Portable, others knocked the judges for placing Bobrisky in a female category.

Femi Adebayo who announced Bobrisky as the winner, received backlash from the public and also faced criticism from his colleague Dayo Amusa who stated that declaring Bobriksy as the best-dressed female was disrespectful to women.

As criticism over Femi Adebayo’s announcement worsened, his wife, Omotayo Aduke in an Instagram post on Tuesday  engaged in a war of words with Dayo Amusa on Tuesday night, forcing Eniola to put out a statement on Instagram on Wednesday night, apologising to everyone.

3, Wole Oguntokun’s death: Nigerian foremost theatre arts practitioner, director and  Playwright Wole Oguntokun died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

Oguntokun, 56, according to multiple sources, died in Canada. Born on 15 July 1967, Oguntokun was a board member of Theaturtle, a Canadian theatre company.

In 2021, he won the Young-Howze Award for Dramatic Writing of the Year for his play ‘The Emancipation of Yankee Oluwale’, based on the trial of two English policemen in 1969 for the death of the Nigerian migrant, David Oluwale.

The playwright’s death is considered a huge loss to the entertainment industry in Nigeria.

4, Zack Orji’s rumoured death: The national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, during a recent interview with Afia TV, expressed disappointment at those spreading fake news about the movie star’s demise.

This is after it was rumoured that the actor passed, on the internet on Tuesday, forcing Emeka Rollas to debunk the speculation.

Rumour that the actor has passed on started circulating on the internet on Tuesday, causing panic amongst fans and well wishers.

Zack, 64, had slumped on December 29 2023 and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the National Hospital in Abuja, before he was transferred to a private hospital for surgery.

Photos of  Zack  on his way out of the country to the UK for his post-surgery evaluation surfaced after the AGN’s dismissal.

5, Enioluwa’s purported gay video: Popular, social media influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa became a topic of discussion on Monday night after a viral video of two men making love, one of them was alleged to be him surfaced on social media.

The video was first posted by a faceless blogger who insinuated that Enioluwa was the one in the video but the influencer has remained silent on the matter.

However, one important factor to note is that, one of the men shares facial similarities with the 24-year-old, a few others were able to point out the differences, stating that the person in the video is not Enioluwa.

With questions about the real identity of the person spiralling out of control, the actor and content creator whose name is Briggs in the video was forced to put out a statement on Tuesday to clear the air, vindicating Enioluwa.

Briggs in the video noted that the angle from which the screenshot was taken made it look like Enioluwa but it is not him.

Briggs who is a Nigerian-US-based actor, further asked the public to stop attacking Eniooluwa for something he did not do.
