Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars SC, over alleged involvement in match-fixing.
The club confirmed the development in an official statement, explaining that the suspension is temporary and meant to allow for a full and fair investigation into the serious allegations. According to the management, the decision does not mean the goalkeeper has been found guilty. Instead, it is a precautionary step to protect the integrity of the club and the league while the matter is being carefully reviewed.
Match-fixing is considered a major offence in football because it damages the credibility of the sport and can lead to heavy sanctions from football authorities if proven. Although details of the specific match or incident were not made public, the club assured supporters that it is cooperating with relevant bodies to establish the facts.
Another player at the club, Khalid Aucho, has also been handed a three-month suspension. However, his case is different from that of Obasogie. Aucho was reportedly punished for indiscipline and absence from training sessions without proper explanation. The club stressed that maintaining discipline and professionalism among players remains a top priority.
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars last year after ending his contract with Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema. Since his arrival, he has featured regularly for the Tanzanian outfit.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper was part of Nigeria’s squad that secured a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, an achievement that boosted his profile at the international level.
The club has promised to update the public once investigations are concluded and a final decision is reached.
