Ondo Political Tensions: Assembly Set for Crucial Plenary Session over Aiyedatiwa

The Ondo State House of Assembly is poised for a critical plenary session today, where legislators are expected to delve into the state’s political quagmire.

According to report, the primary focus of the discussion would revolve around the executive arm, contemplating the declaration of Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s absence, attributed to ongoing health concerns, has prompted the Assembly to consider alternative leadership. Akeredolu is currently convalescing at his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Despite the urgency of the matter, internal discord among lawmakers may impede a unanimous decision regarding Aiyedatiwa’s potential elevation.

Sources suggest that some legislators might be absent from today’s session due to these internal conflicts. Notably, it has been revealed that the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress has given its consent for the Assembly’s sitting.

In response to inquiries, Mr. Olatunji Oshati, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, confirmed the scheduled session but remained uncertain about the likelihood of Aiyedatiwa being declared acting governor.

The Assembly spokesman said,

“What I can tell you for now is that there is something like that, not to declare him (Aiyedatiwa) but the House is going to sit on the matter and review the political situation today as directed by our national leaders. The House has likely ( made the declaration), but not under must, I don’t want to preempt what the outcome of the meeting would be. If it is likely to happen, you are invited as well.”

Top Society sighted heavy security measures today at the Ondo House of Assembly, a preemptive action aimed at preventing any potential disruption of law and order ahead of the planned plenary session.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, clarified after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu that Friday’s scheduled plenary intends to declare Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor, explicitly stating that the purpose is not to declare Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as incapacitated.

Adding another layer to the unfolding political drama, Top Society reported that President Bola Tinubu is set to convene with Assembly members in Abuja today. The meeting is anticipated to address and potentially resolve the persisting crisis within the state.
