The highly anticipated meeting between the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Federal Government, initially slated for today, has been postponed to next Tuesday, following a request by the Federal Government.
A representative of the NLC disclosed that the rescheduling was prompted by the Federal Government’s realization that the initial date coincided with their Federal Executive Council meeting.
The meeting, which was expected to address the 30-day ultimatum and the terms outlined in the signed Memorandum of Understanding, holds substantial significance in light of the unresolved issues between the government and the labor unions. These lingering concerns are directly linked to pending milestones and demands that are yet to be met.
Expressing apprehension, the NLC has voiced concerns about the Minister of Labour’s involvement in the upcoming meeting. This development signals potential tensions that could arise during the deliberations.

As previously stated,
“The organised labour suspended the last planned strike action and gave the Federal Government 30 days to meet our demands.”
They have stated that once the ultimatum expires, they will organize a meeting to evaluate the actions taken by the Federal Government.
He added,
“If the organs believe that what the government has done is not substantial and not in line with the agreement signed, they will give fresh directives on how to handle the situation without giving any further notice of industrial action.”
He mentioned that if the government doesn’t take substantial measures, according to the labor organizations’ assessment, they may promptly initiate directives for immediate industrial action.
Emphasizing that organized labor’s requests have been clearly communicated, he stated that it is every Nigerian and worker’s duty to evaluate how much the Federal Government has addressed these demands.
On the other hand, he highlighted that it is the government’s responsibility to update both organized labor and the Nigerian public on the progress made regarding these demands. However, he suggested that many of the labor’s demands remain unmet.
