Eniola Olajuni, the National President of the Afenifere Youth Council, has been released after spending 12 harrowing days in captivity. Biodun Aderohunmu, the National Secretary of the Youth Council, confirmed Olajuni’s release in a brief WhatsApp message on Saturday, simply stating, “He has been released.”
Olajuni’s abduction occurred on February 17, 2025, while he was en route to Abuja for a meeting. Unidentified gunmen intercepted him, taking him hostage and sparking widespread concern among his colleagues, family, and friends. The kidnappers soon made contact with Olajuni’s associates, demanding a hefty ransom of N100 million and two tricycles in exchange for his freedom.
As the news of Olajuni’s abduction spread, a heart-wrenching video went viral, showing him held at gunpoint and pleading with Nigerians to come to his aid and raise funds for his release. The video sparked widespread outrage and sympathy, with many calling for his immediate release.
Following the video’s release, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun sprang into action, deploying the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to secure Olajuni’s safe release. The IRT, renowned for their expertise in handling high-pressure hostage situations, worked tirelessly to track down Olajuni’s captors and negotiate his freedom.
After 12 agonizing days, Olajuni’s ordeal finally came to an end. His release has been met with widespread relief and jubilation, with many praising the swift response of the Nigeria Police Force and the IRT.
The circumstances surrounding Olajuni’s abduction and release remain unclear, and it is uncertain whether the ransom demands were met.
