The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has declared that nothing can ever make him leave his wife, Margaret.
In a recent interview on the ‘Honest Bunch’ podcast, the former Anambra governor expressed his unwavering love and commitment to their marriage, which has lasted for over three decades.
The politician emphasized that regardless of what Margaret does, including having an extramarital affair, he would never consider divorce.
He said, “No matter what my wife does today I cannot stop marrying her. I can never separate from her. Even if you like carry a gun to shoot me.
“As long as I am alive, she is my wife. I can tell you that. That is me. That is sealed. Whatever she likes she should do. What can she do to offend me?
“Maybe, have an affair. It is her business. It is not me. Who would say the two of us are having an affair?”
The Labour Party (LP) candidate at the 2023 presidential election also highlighted the differences in their lifestyle choices, citing an example where Margaret travels in business or first class while he prefers economy class.
“You cannot quantify me with the life of my wife or my children. We have different lifestyles. Even if I am travelling with my wife, people see my wife in business class,” he said.
“They have seen her in first class. We are in a different class and we are in the same plane. She is in business class, I am in economic class. We do not quarrel with what suits her.”
Obi married Margaret in 1992. Their union is blessed with two children — Oseloka and Gabriella.
Last year, Obi described his wife as “the best mother to our dear children”.
The former Anambra governor appreciated his wife for her “support and dedication to the cause of a better Nigeria” adding that she’s “the best partner and the best mother to our dear children”.
The politician also described Margareth as “the best partner and the best mother to our dear children”.
“My Dearest Wife, I most sincerely congratulate you on your birthday anniversary today. You remain the best partner and the best mother to our dear children,” he wrote.
“Your passionate contributions to the vision of a New Nigeria remain admirable, and your sacrifices for a better Nigeria are very encouraging. You traversed every part of our dear nation during our rigorous campaign period, preaching the gospel of the New Nigeria. I celebrate you today as always.
“May God Almighty, who has been with you all these years grant you many more healthy and happy years, and continue to bless you always. Happy Birthday My One and Only Dear Wife.”
