Nigerian Rapper and singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, known by his stage name as Skales, has claimed to have pitched in to the success of his colleague Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy.

In a recent interview with Naija FM, Lagos, the rapper said he inspired Burna Boy at some point in his career.

According to him, his colleague Burna Boy had no hit song before he was featured on ‘Temper Remix’ in 2017. He also stated that Burna Boy has also inspired him over the years, adding that the essence of collaboration is to support and promote each other.

He said: “I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me. So, nobody help anybody. We probably admire ourselves and we decide to work together.

“As at then, Burna boy had no hot song before I featured him on ‘Temper Remix.’

It was after our collaboration that he started excelling. I’m not trying to take credit for his success but he has inspired me over the years and I believe I inspired him at a point, too.”

In 2009, Skales relocated to Lagos and signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). His debut single ‘Must Shine’ received numerous spin on the Rhythm FM stations in Lagos, Jos and Abuja

His 2009 release ‘Heading for a Grammy’ which was inspired by Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks”. The experiences he was going through at the time helped shape the scope of the song.

After leaving E.M.E in May 2014, the rapper set up the independent OHK Music record label. The label is home to producer Drey Beatz and has partnerships with other music personnel within the country.

Skales is well known for his songs ‘Shake Body’, ‘Mukulu’, ‘Keresimesi’, ‘Komole’, My Baby’, and ‘Denge Pose’ and ‘Take Care of Me’.
