A man believed to be a leader of the Buccaneers confraternity, Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Yinka Agali, has been shot dead in Lagos State.

The incident occurred on the night of April 11, 2026, in the Iponri area of Surulere.

According to reports, the deceased was widely known in the community and was considered an influential member of the confraternity.

Witnesses said he was attacked while driving along the Iponri axis. Gunmen reportedly opened fire on his vehicle, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds.

While some sources have linked the killing to ongoing clashes between rival cult groups in the area, others believe it may be connected to political tensions ahead of upcoming local government elections.

There have also been claims circulating on social media suggesting that the deceased had links with the All Progressives Congress (APC), although authorities have not confirmed this information.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that it received a distress call about gunshots at about 11:30 p.m. near the National Stadium Bridge heading towards Iponri. Officers from the Surulere Division were immediately sent to the scene.

On arrival, the police found the victim inside an unregistered white Mercedes-Benz GLE 350. He was quickly taken to Mainland General Hospital in Yaba, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the attackers abandoned a black Ford Edge at the scene and escaped in another vehicle. She added that both vehicles have been recovered and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has taken custody of his body and reportedly indicated that it would not pursue the case further.
