The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has suspended its decision in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who contested the verdict of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

The tribunal had previously declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the contentious election, held in Kano State.
In a judgment delivered remotely via Zoom, the tribunal ruled that 165,663 of Governor Yusuf’s votes were deemed invalid due to the absence of signatures or stamps from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the ballot papers. This decision significantly impacted the outcome of the election, tipping the scales in favor of Yusuf’s opponent.
Disputing the tribunal’s verdict, Governor Yusuf promptly appealed the decision and took the case to the Court of Appeal. After a protracted legal battle, the court announced on Monday that it would defer its decision, thereby prolonging the suspense and tension surrounding the case.
